How God’s Truth Can Change Your Family’s Legacy
The other day, I sat with Romans 7:15—Paul’s confession: “I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.”
And I thought—yes, that’s me some days. I want to be patient, calm, and gentle with my kids. But instead, I snap. I spiral. And by bedtime, I’m drowning in guilt, promising myself tomorrow will be different.
Can you relate, mama?
So many of us live here—stuck in survival mode. We long to raise kids who know and love Jesus, but if we’re honest, we feel unqualified. We tell ourselves: “I just need better tools so my kids will behave.”
But here’s what God has been showing me: legacy doesn’t start with tools. Legacy starts with roots.
You cannot raise Daniels and Esthers—kids who stand firm in faith in today’s culture—if your own heart is tangled in lies.
The Lies We Believe
For so long, I brushed off the thoughts in my head as “just the way I am.” But God showed me: those thoughts weren’t harmless—they were lies. And when lies play on repeat, they turn into strongholds that shape how we live and how we mother.
The Enemy whispers:
- “You’ll never change.”
- “You’re failing as a mom.”
- “Your family will always be stuck.”
And slowly, we begin to believe them.
But mama, those lies don’t get the final say. Scripture tells us to “take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). That’s not a one-time thing—it’s daily work. “Renewing your mind” (Romans 12:2) as scripture calls it. Replacing lies with Truth. Deciding you’re done living under old patterns.
Yes, the lies feel loud. But God’s Word is louder:
- “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).
- “You are a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
You don’t have to stay stuck. You can start today. Because strongholds crumble when you believe God’s Word more than the Enemy’s whispers.
Why This Matters Now
Our kids are growing up in a world that will test their faith. Daniel was only a teenager when Babylon tried to lure him into compromise. Esther was a young woman when she was called to risk everything for her people.
Your children will face cultural pressures you cannot protect them from. But you can prepare them.
Not by perfect parenting.
Not by controlling every outcome.
But by being rooted in God’s Truth yourself.
Because your identity becomes their inheritance. When you stand, they’ll know how to stand.
From Survival to Legacy
For a long time, my motherhood didn’t look anything like I wanted. I was impatient, reactive, full of guilt. I read the books, tried the strategies, prayed harder—and still nothing really changed.
Then one day, God showed me: the problem wasn’t the tools. It was my roots.
The fruit in my home—tension, impatience, guilt—was just revealing what was in my heart. My motherhood was rooted in lies: “I’m not enough. I’ll always mess this up. Nothing will ever change.”
But as I slowed down and let God dig into those lies, everything began to shift. I began replacing lies with Truth and building rhythms of peace. And little by little, the fruit changed too.
I became more patient—not because I tried harder, but because I was rooted in Christ. And my kids? They began to see authentic faith, lived out in real life.
That’s legacy. That’s raising Daniels and Esthers.
Rooted Like a Tree
Psalm 1 gives us a beautiful picture of what this looks like:
“Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord… They are like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.”
Mama, when you root your identity and worth in God’s Word, you become that tree—nourished, steady, and fruitful no matter the season. The storms may come, but your roots hold firm.
And here’s the thing: fruit isn’t just for the tree itself. Fruit always carries seeds—seeds that nourish others and grow into new life. The peace, patience, and joy God cultivates in you are meant to overflow into your children, your home, and generations to come.
The fruit you bear today becomes the foundation of their faith tomorrow.
