April 2 marked the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in 2022. To the average Muslim, the month of Ramadan is characterized by a focused time of seeking Allah: by fasting during the daylight hours and praying for revelation via dreams and visions.

Over the past 30 years, Christians around the world have committed to praying for Muslims during the month of Ramadan, asking that the True God would answer their heart-felt prayers for Truth. And God has! In the past 30 years, more Muslims have come to faith in Christ than in the previous 1400 years combined! And how are most Muslims coming to hear about Jesus Christ? Through dreams and visions of a bright, white-robed man who tells them to go to a certain place and talk to someone about the interpretation of their dream.

This is a great opportunity to share the differences between our faith in Christ and the Muslim faith with our children and join millions around the world in praying for supernatural events to happen in the Muslim world for Christ.

First, don’t be afraid of having this conversation with your elementary-aged children and older. More than likely, they already know someone in their class or school of a different faith or have been taught about the major world religions at school. Go ahead and answer their questions about the differences between these faiths, you don’t have to be an expert to explain some basics to them. If you need some help, Pioneers has a free downloadable resource and videos for kids to explain the major world religions. If you have more in-depth questions about the differences between Christianity and Islam, check out GotQuestion.org.

Secondly, keep the focus on praying for Muslims to come to know the Truth and find saving faith in Jesus Christ. Each year during the month of Ramadan, several ministries put out a monthly prayer guide (some kid-specific, others adult-only) via e-mail, PDF, video, etc. This is my favorite resource our family has used: 30 DAYS Muslim World Prayer Guide (kids and adult versions, printed and downloadable for just a few dollars) and I encourage you to grab one for your family!

Specifically set aside time on the “Night of Power” on Thursday, April 28, 2022 to pray strategically and powerfully for Muslims you know. This night, known as Laylat al-Qadr, commemorates the night that their prophet, Mohammed, received the first verses of their holy book, the Qur’an. Devoted Muslims will spend most of their time this day in a Mosque reciting words from their holy book, and specifically asking Allah to reveal himself to them as he did to Mohammed.

As your family spends time praying for Muslims, remember the words of Jesus in John 8: 32 “the Truth will set you free.” Muslims live under the weight of needing to perform more “good deeds” to out-weigh their “bad deeds” to earn a place in heaven. Isaiah responds to the proverbial question, “How then can we be saved? All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:5-6). And Paul reminds us that, “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). Ask that God would reveal Himself to those who are truly seeking Him and that He would set them free: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (Jesus in John 8:36).

  • Pray that Jesus would make Himself known.
  • Pray for softened hearts of those in Muslim nations.
  • Pray for the leaders of Islamic countries to turn to Christ and stop the persecution of Christians.
  • Pray for open doors for believers to share the Gospel to their Muslim friends.
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to open eyes and hearts to God’s Truth.
  • Pray for a movement of God through Muslim communities and that whole families would come to saving faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for safety for new Muslim-background believers who often face hardship for their new faith.
  • Pray for discipleship opportunities and strengthened faith in the face of persecution.
